Alliance has some of the oldest housing in Stark County. Half of its roughly 9,100 homes were built by 1951, and 48% predate 1950, compared with 28% countywide (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020-2024 American Community Survey). The Census Bureau counts about 3,800 Alliance homes built in 1939 or earlier, 41% of the city, and just 6% built since 2000. The next busiest decade was the 1950s, with about 1,500 homes. On a house that old, the roof we remove is rarely the first one, and earlier roofs were sometimes installed over the ones before them. We strip to the decking, check the chimney and the flashing where the roof meets the walls, and note any sagging along the ridge, which on older framing can point to rafter or decking problems worth fixing before new shingles go on.
